Night raid £485
At night the Thames’ river mists get into the old Physic garden and lie low, rolling silently over the medicinal flower beds. Chelsea cats, living close by, leave their pussy personalities behind and sneak in, stalking by starlight. They have paid their dues, innocent and sleeping in the sunshine of window seats by day; but now slowly they come, stretching out and drawn by the lure of their deep old natures, they return to ancient forests and grasslands. Silently, eyes a-glitter, they pass through tall grasses, snowdrops and hedge parsley following night noises and dark rustlings. One of six paintings commissioned for the 350th anniversary of the Chelsea Physic Garden
