The Goldfinch Gallery are delighted to feature the Etchings of Sheila Roberts an accomplished, soft ground Printmaker. These rich, detailed, intricate prints showcase her love of Scotland's wildlife and mystical imagination inspired by the strength and imagery of Tribal Art.
Sheila is a printmaker specialising in intaglio soft ground etchings. In the early 80s she studied drawing and painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and where in her postgraduate year she discovered etching. When she moved to Edinburgh Sheila became an active member of the Edinburgh Printmakers and continued to experiment with different printmaking styles and techniques.
Sheila now lives in Comrie Perthshire and continues to etch in her garden studio. She loves the complexity of etching and the freedom she has to experiment with different materials and subject matters. She feels she is on a journey, continually learning, playing around, making a few mistakes, having happy accidents and perfecting a few skills on the way. Sheila’s prints are full of rich details which have taken many hours, days and sometimes weeks to create. The plates are etched using impressions of feathers, lace, leather and leaves, so the images maybe strong but the detail is delicate.
This is Sheila’s first solo exhibition and features many of her large etchings created over the decades alongside her smaller realistic wildlife prints.
